Chicken Season

While it is almost duck season (and rabbit and squirrels) on the outside of our home with all our collected statuary ~ it most definitely is Chicken
Season
on the inside of our home.

While writing this post it had me thinking about Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny arguing over if it was Rabbit Season or Duck Season……the silly things that come to mind!

I’m not sure how it all came about ~ I didn’t really set out to find chickens or do I have a thing for them, or do I seek them out, or collect them in any way or even have a theme for that matter ~ but they have found a way into my art, home and heart…. and especially into my kitchen.

There is a glass chicken dish collection in all shapes, sizes and colors in the blue hutch on a tray and one more in my kitchen as a tea caddy ~ notice the ‘sideways head tilt‘ on the tea caddy chicken. a unique find, for sure!

…and then adding seasonal Christmas greens are a must.

There has been crafty table settings with handmade ‘chicken’ napkin rings (read here), using a curtain hook and plastic toy chicken for each setting.

The next chicken came all the way from a Sweden ~ a friend was visiting her exchange student (who is now all grown up) and she thought of me while enjoying the search at a Swedish Flea Market!

Each Autumn Season we enjoy the Swedish Chicken placed into a vignette!

Then there is all the Art!

Chicken chalkboards in the kitchen, and also on the backsplash and on the mantel as well, during the Autumn Season!

There is even Chicken Art collected from other Artists! I just had to have this Chicken Print from Katie Daisy. The colors are so fun ~ placing it into a vintage frame, it has moved several places within the kitchen.

I made a ‘chicken’ bowl on the pottery wheel ~ it’s a little wonky but I love it just the same….along with my pottery lessons. Sometimes it sits on the shelving in the kitchen. (read here).

And this drawing is just waiting to be completed in acrylics and colored pencil ~ how fun!

there are chicken egg cups, chicken cookie cutters, and cookies too.

In the kitchen there are ceramic chicken heads (and one duck), a chicken metal trivet and chicken chalkboards all found at vintage markets. If you look close you can even see a chicken embroidered onto a pillowcase turned cafe curtain!

We even make chicken salad (a favorite for sure) and serve it over crackers.

…and a favorite gift from a far away friend ~ a crochet chicken in blue!

…so smitten.

Also gifted, an absolute favorite ‘chicken’ that makes its way thru our hutches, seasonal decor and kitchen…..a hand painted Ompir tin cup! …I am so grateful for the friends I have met along my creative journey.

…blessed am I.

Our home doesn’t ‘scream chicken’ ~ (.…although I am starting to wonder while I share my collection here, lol) and the collecting has happened over time and is intentional.

Each Chicken was either collected, crafted, painted, gifted or found on my vintage travels ~ not from any big box store.

…..and that to me is living the Cottage Life.

Creatively Yours, Amy.
