Create Art & Curate Your Home

The table is set…..for comfort, good eats and conversation with a good friend.

Casual attire, comfort food and good conversation is really all that is needed at this table……invite a friend!

Creating a ‘tablescape’ with a center piece and place settings ~ made up of a little vintage, a little Walmart and a little handmade…..using what you have.

Serving up simple chicken salad on good ol’ sourdough bread……the table is set in ‘Blue Jean Cottage Style’~ the way I see it anyway.

To begin place a piece of denim fabric from your fabric stash ~ as a table cloth….raw edges are fine on denim, makin’ it casual as well.

Then pull this and that from your family room and kitchen to create the centerpiece ~ I Simply stacked bowls or plates onto a wicker place mat for texture and added a glass reproduction chicken.  Making it easy to remove to add the meal….what do you have in your home to use as a centerpiece?

The place setting was made up of vintage stacked ironstone plates from Antiquing Trips and simple bowls from the Better Homes and Gardens Collection at Walmart.

The Blue on and in the bowl compliments the denim fabric….and the white ironstone.

PS….I have a set of vintage white ironstone available in my new shop at Studio 895! Click here, to learn more about Studio 895.

It all makes for an inexpensive place setting…….and looks casual and elegant at the same time.

My Pap always ended his meal with jelly bread……I think of him every time I crave something sweet after a meal.

The simple napkins rings are a handmade touch…..they wrap around vintage linens used as napkins.

Simply made using DecoArt products, a curtain ring and a rubber toy chicken!

You may have an extra curtain ring laying around….or you can find them pretty inexpensively….if you purchase them ~ you will have a complete set for your table setting! Simply remove the clips and eyehooks from the curtain rings.

Then with a small rubber chicken from your childs cast off toys (or purchased at Michaels Crafts) ~ glue to the top of the curtain ring with E6000 paintable Glue and let dry overnight.

Then apply one coat of DecoArt Paint Adhesive over curtain ring and chicken.  Once the Adhesive is tacky, apply a mix of DecoArt Graphite Paint and Adhesive over entire curtain ring and chicken.  Then apply just Graphite Paint for solid coverage.

Once dry, apply DecoArt Metallics Silver with a sponge or drybrush over curtain ring and chicken, allowing the graphite paint to show thru….and let dry.

I personally love a mix-matched handmade ‘tablescape’…..it shows love more-so than any expensive gold flat-ware, expensive dinnerware collections and elaborate centerpieces.  It makes for a comfortable sit-down get-to-know-you meal…..and is just as pretty!

…and I just have to say it, it makes my ‘Blue Jean Cottage’ life ~ a happy place!

Set your comfy table inexpensively with vintage finds and Walmart….then add some charm with handmade chicken napkin rings…..invite a friend, make a chicken salad and enjoy!

    1. Thrifty and fun! Thank uuuuu

  4. I love seeing all of your vignettes and antiques. Such pretty mix and match things! I also find that I like ‘coordinating’ better than ‘matching’. Having a basic ‘flavor’ to a room setting leaves lots of room for interest and one-of-a-kind pieces. Beautiful blog, Amy! 🙂

    1. Thank you Sheila….I have a lot of crooked forks and such not perfectly placed~although I tried for the photo….but makes it truly comfortable to sit down! Had fun creating the ‘scene’!

  5. The napkin rings are a cut idea. Everything looks nice
