spring cleaning 2017 3

I needed some motivation to clean and get organized this spring….to make my pitch, keep, donate and sell piles too.

And you will be surprised when I tell you that my motivation was in buying new cleaning products……recommended by Miss Mustard Seed, of course. …Oh! and you can count this as one of my new favorites……

Mrs Meyers Geranium Scented Everyday Cleaner

(can be found at Weis Market and other Retail Locations)

Oh – My – Word….simple goodness.  A very fresh feel and scent, it made the difference.  If you haven’t switched….treat yourself, I think it will be a favorite of yours too!

Refreshing my vignettes while cleaning makes the task more fun as well,……so I removed everything from the shelves and created new vignettes for spring….(it was about time to remove winter….it is May after all)….and I placed some new vintage finds among the ol’ favorites.

One new find was this framed photo from years past…..it spoke to me.  Sold.

…found at Tink’s Antiques in Tamaqua Pa, where else?!?!

While carrying it home ~ I was in hopes that Jerry would think it was a leftover from my grandparents and not some un-related group of people…..Or maybe I could sell it as, my new family…….He just gave me a nod and moved on

….he gets me.

The frame was  spiffy’d up with Miss Mustard Seed hemp oil too….another all natural product.  Great for refreshing tired wood.

The framed photo worked well with my ‘comfy blue-jean cottage’ kinda look….. sometimes the inexpensive little things can make a huge impression.

……adding touches of antique gold and deep green to the blue and white.

The fireplace surround was built by my hubby, Jerry….almost complete.  A few more tweaks and the hardware.  Choices, choices, choices, I am thinking antique gold knobs.

The built-in kitchen/dining hutch was prettied up …in white ~ with ironstone, and various pieces that hold memories.  I am thinking I need to refresh the paint this Spring and add new hardware as well……add it to the list.

…and the whole ‘comfy blue-jean cottage’ ‘Amy coined’ look would not be complete without the jacket over a kitchen hook, with baker’s twine and a vintage-linen bag from DunnbyDesigns on Etsy.

I do take time to write down a dream list of ‘to-dos’ while cleaning and organizing.  For me it’s a ruffled blind for the window, indigo batik pillows for the sofa, hardware and a new carpet.  Saving my pennies for a natural jute square braided rug with a hint of blue….my thought for the moment anyway.

Cleaned, Organized, Decorated, Pitched, Donate, Sell and List Made…..done.

It has taken 30 years of collecting, pitching, changing, growing, donating, selling and curating to find a look I am happy with.  Good Things take time.

I ‘coined’ it….Comfy Blue Jean Cottage….

I try not to fit into a perfect box of Country or Primitive or Victorian, etc, I’ve done that in the past and it just did not feel right to follow trends (purchasing the latest and then selling them quickly)…..I have learned to search for pieces that I love and eventually ‘my’ home came together in ‘my’ own style….and is always a work in progress with to-do’s, shopping lists and room for new vintage finds.

My hope is that my home is Welcoming enough to wear your comfy blue jeans and kick off your shoes and stay a while……the door is always open….and smells like geraniums!

What motivates you to Spring Clean?  What is your Style?

Note: My words and opinions are my own, this is not a paid post to promote.

  1. Your home is so lovely, warm and welcoming and … clean… 🙂 After spring cleaning i feel as though all this weight has been lifted off my shoulders, As I like to say- It’s not the process I enjoy, its the end result when everything is neat and tidy that I love. I had a giggle about your story with the frame… you never know… so many faces in that photo. Maybe there is a connection with one?
    Mmmm

    1. Thank you so much….I agree, cleaning is not my thing either…but moving my ‘stuff’ around makes it fun and the end result makes me happy….at least until the next time! 🙂

  2. I am not good at spring cleaning, but I do love when everything is neat and shinny, clean and tidy. I will have to try mrs. meyer’s.

    1. 2 peas on a pod Jane! Try Mrs Meyers….I hear lavender scent is pretty too!
