Using what we have on hand ~ this table setting was put together pretty quickly ~ a blue gingham tablecloth was created with an extra piece of material from a project ~ then adding our everyday ironstone dinner plates along with a few fall plates from Michael’s (here), all stacked on top of a wicker charger.

The table setting was coordinated with a beautiful cake pedestal gifted from a very talented local Wood Turner, such a kind family. It is sure to be an heirloom piece I will use for many special occasions.
I then placed a few handmade vintage linens made by my hubby’s Aunt Flossie on top of the cake pedestal and also tucked a linen inside a mug for a napkin.
I encourage you to use the ‘special sentimentals’ in your life, these linens remind me of how beautiful Aunt Flossie was and the good times we had.

The hand turned candlestick holders were a purchase a few years back from the same Wood Turner ~ So smitten with the bark from the tree surrounding one holder of the set of three. Using them daily in our living room vignettes ~ as shown below, and now on our table too.

Our Blue Hydrangeas turned a perfect shade of purple during the early Autumn season ~ and made a pretty centerpiece for our table. Along with a few pine cones at each place setting.

But it was the German Chocolate Sandwich Cookies that made this table setting worth sitting down to ~ for a moment to enjoy.
Enjoy the Recipe.

Ingredients
Method
- Make the Filling ~ in a medium saucepan, whisk together the condensed milk, egg yolks and butter. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thick and bubbly, about 6 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla, pecans and coconut. Transfer to a bowl and cool about 1 hour.
- Making the Cookies ~ Preheat Oven to 375° and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk together the dry ingredients, flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Then in a large bowl beat the butter and brown sugar on medium speed for about 1 minute. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Reduce to low speed and beat in flour mixture until combined. Stir in the pecans and chocolate.
- Baking the Cookies ~ Scoop the cookies (about 2 tb) each onto prepared baking sheets. Press to flatten cookie just a bit. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on sheets, then transfer and completely cool on rack.
- Assemble German Cookie Sandwiches ~ spoon filling onto the bottom cookie and top with another cookie creating a sandwich. Roll the edge in coconut if desired.

It’s about using the heirloom dishes, linens and handmade cake pedestals; mixing and matching the table setting with your everyday dishes, adding pretty flowers from the garden and sharing a homemade dessert.
