I’m in love with vintage little cabinets, dressers, hutches and drawer sets. So much that they became a ‘thing‘ in my studio and then became a ‘thing‘ in the ‘My Cottage Life Shop’… I’ll share more on the shop a bit later.
I enjoy finding them, collecting them, ‘playing’ with them, moving them around, decorating with them, filling them with goods and even traveling with them.
Here is a glimpse into my love for the ‘littles’, how it began, and how I use them.
~*~
I’m going to blame my friend Tracy here, she may know me about the best when it comes to what I like to collect ~ being an Antique Shop Owner of ‘Sister Stash‘, along with her Sister Sherry (Ebay Shop Here).
Tracy found the cutest little dresser in the perfect farmhouse white on one of their antiquing trips and it was love at first sight for me.
It was dresser #1.
When Tracy gifted it to me, I instantly fell in love….she knows me so well. I scrubbed it up and hung it on a wall in my Studio where it still hangs today.
…and in the below image ~is another view of the dresser in the Studio (see studio tour here) (fabric wallpaper here). As you can see peeking from behind the light there is another small hutch just above the little dresser. Where there is one there is two.
And this is where my love for small dressers began.
After that I fell in love with ‘the hunt and find’ for each little dresser, cabinet or hutch, that landed in my path. I have even left a few behind (reluctantly) ~ and still dream about each one …seriously I do.
Most little cabinets need a bit of scrubbing and shearing up…and some need paint, but that is all part of the fun.
A most recent find from Tracy is this little dresser (above) receiving a fresh coat of white paint and it now sits atop another find that already had the most endearing chippy blue paint, (and shown again below). Each dresser sits on top of my sewing desk and each will hold sewing supplies…. one day ~ I’m still working out the details.
and these 2 small dressers sit along side a small hutch (shown below) ~ the hutch will have a pin cushion drawer, a denim skirt and pin-up board interior walls. I also found a few ironstone knobs that will finish off the cabinet doors and drawer.
There is a larger child’s hutch also in my Studio (below) ~ I have used it for fun displays with candles and such. I recently added a vintage paper cutter to the top for extra interest.
~ vintage office supplies are another weakness (…just ask my yard stick collection).
I’ve even had a tiny cabinet used for photo-shoots (see below) it also held my business cards at one time. You can find it in the Sister Stash Ebay Shop (here).
Some little dressers I play with for a while and then pass along for someone else to love.
This pink cabinet (shown below in the shop where I purchased it) needed (and still needs) some adjusting ~ I painted it white and it’s looking better already! It landed in a few places within the ‘My Cottage Life’ Shop line up.
It’s not perfect, but it’s loved even without the knobs.

There is also this ‘denim-skirted’ hutch (shown below) which has been moved into so many places in our studio and in the shop…and is at the top of the list for my travel displays.
It too has been the backdrop for many photos and one of my first finds.

I’ve had this roll-top hutch (shown below and above) for a while now.
It has a roll-top bottom and is pretty lightweight for travel displays. It also has a place in the ‘My Cottage Life Shop‘. I removed the doors for easy access.

This sweet little cabinet (shown below) landed in our ‘My Cottage Life Shop‘ main display. And behind it (shown in the image below) are ‘little doors’ ~ how could I resist?

I have been picking up a few more ‘littles’ here and there along the way….including this one (shown below) ~ a small cutie just waiting for a place to call home….we picked it up this past Saturday and hope to play with it soon!
I couldn’t resist. I found it thru an ad from a local antique shop owner on Facebook. I couldn’t reach out fast enough to make it mine.
Most ‘little cabinets’ have a place in our Shop and Studio ~ and can easily be removed for travel shows.
I use them for photography, some for the shop, some for storage and display and some for travel. And they are all loved.
I’ll share more soon how they became part of the Shop with a signature look!
.…and I am so happy they find me.
Creatively Yours, Amy
ps. I may also have a little chair problem, a little doll house problem, a train yard village problem, a vintage office supply problem, and more. ….just saying.

Hi, Amy! I have a few little cabinets. 2 to be exact. One from IKEA that was unfinished and got stained. The second was also unfinished and got a light sage green paint. They’re still used with small items such as twine, bike parts, metal coasters, and knives to cut the twine. The other is just there to look pretty. So, I get your love for these pieces of furniture small and big. Here’s to more good hunting for the next one!
Hi Amy, I also love little cabinet and dressers. I have a couple of my own! I miss you. It’s almost spring! Barbara Perry
