Yes, my brushes will just about paint anything…..even cookies.

I am pretty sure between my husband and I ~ all our worldly goods have something to do with paint….and pretty much all of our clothing has splatters of paint as well. Between House Paint, Automotive Paint, Furniture Paint, Acrylics, Watercolors, Oils, Stains, Spray Paint….and if you want to throw in Pencils too, we’ve got it covered.

And now add Edible Paint into the mix!

We have shared ‘coloring cookies’ before with Edible Markers (here) but have never tried my hand at painting cookies, until now that is.

Using a favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe (found here), adding the icing, then styling each cookie first with a Classic Cling Rubber Stamp (available here) it made painting the cookies a-whole-lot easier!

Here is the How

First bake a batch of Sugar Cut-Out Cookies (I used a biscuit cutter) and let cool. Then add the icing by piping the edges first, then flooding the icing inside (using the recipe provided on Wilton Meringue Powder).

Instructions can be found on how to prepare, pipe and flood the icing on Youtube.

Let set overnight (or longer) until the icing is firm to the touch.

The cookie itself will remain soft using the recipe provided above. I think it’s in the secret ingredient….pssst, it’s cream cheese (I never could keep a secret).

Since this was my first time Creating Cookies using the Classic Cling Rubber Stamps & Paint ~ I learned along the way that, just like with any project, the end result will be even better if you give it time and patience from the very first step.

Learning not to over flood the cookie with icing to assure a smoother surface for easier stamping…. and be sure to take care of the air bubbles too.

Next up is Stamping the Cookie ~ Choosing a Stamp with less detail will work best, especially as a beginner.

Be sure to set aside the Stamps only to be used for your Edible Art.

Using Brushes (just for Edible Art) found (here) and Edible Art Paint found (here) ~ brush black paint onto the clean Rubber Stamp and then Stamp onto the Cookie. Fill in any missing ‘details’ with a Liner Brush or Edible Marker (found here). You should be able to at least see an imprint to follow.

Then simply paint within the design. Decorative Art skills do come in handy.

As a side note ~ I purchased the package of paint noted above, plus one individual bottle in Red (found here) to complete Santa, Mrs Claus and Elfie. The paint is on the pricy side compared to our regular Acrylics, but I can tell you it will go far.
