Instead of reaching for your next bottle of Kraft BBQ Sauce ~ try your hand at creating your very own blend to ‘jar’, save and share too!

It really is just an assembly of ingredients, ‘a little of this and a little of that‘, all blended together to your own liking.

Do you like a honey blend, a smoke-y blend, a spicy blend or any other combination?…..the flavor is simply adjusted by mixing ‘a little more of this and a little less of that‘!

This recipe ‘jars’ 24 ~ 8oz jars ~ ready made bbq sauce for dipping or cooking.

Once you have tasted your own blend, you will no longer be a bottle baby….simply delish.

The ‘base’ of the recipe (below) is from the Cookbook ‘The Joy of Cooking‘ ~ shown below, a favorite cookbook for sure.

BBQ Sauce

Servings 24 8 oz jars

  • 18 cups ketchup (use your favorite brand)
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 7 cups brown sugar (for the sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp chili powder (or to your taste)
  • 1/2 cup hickory smoke (or to your taste)
  • 1 cup worestershire sauce
  • 1 cup mustard (I used honey mustard)
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder (or to your taste)
  • 3 tbsp onion powder (or to your taste)

  • Mix the garlic powder and onion powder with the mustard and set aside for a moment. (keeps the sauce from becoming lumpy.)
  • Pour and Mix all ingredients, including the mustard blend, into a very large stock pot and boil for 15 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Place into clean 8oz canning jars. Jar with your favorite jarring method. label jar with date for keeping.
  • a simple assembly of basic ingredients to impress your guests…..giftable too! Enjoy!

yes, a simple assembly of basic ingredients….for dipping or cooking, sure to impress your family and guests. Makes for a great gift! ~ Enjoy!

My idea of a good quick hamburger-bbq sandwich was simply chili sauce and ground hamburger ~ well, until I tried this Sloppy Joe Recipe…..from ‘The Joy of Cooking‘ Cookbook.

The last ingredient is homemade BBQ sauce ~ it’s a good thing I made 24 8oz jars!

a simply delicious recipe, served alongside Jerry’s Grams Rotini Salad (found here). Yum!

Sloppy Joe BBQ Sandwich
