Over the past few years I have set out to create and find my own style, not only in my designing, painting and Studio space, but our Home too.
Early on I have been influenced by trends, tv ads, television shows and by what’s available thru shopping and even social media ads ~ creating a look that is ‘safe’, assumed, and loosely following some sort of trend, simply just following along.
And just like creating art ~ I was craving my own style for our home ~ I just wanted to be ‘me’, creating a home from my own vision, my own imagination and my own style.
So I began re-focusing on having fun with color and adding texture, along with shopping for unique vintage finds to repurpose for our Home and my Studio.
A home made just for us.
No trends. No specific labeled style.
Instead of being influenced by, I now am inspired by ~ thru magazines, instagram and bloggers alike.
Following their lead, not their ‘picks’.
I have found inspiration recently thru Instagram, specifically the cottage of Amy C Whyte ~ I just adore her style, her decor, her vib. She has great use of color, fabrics, wall papers and repurposed vintage finds. ~ uniquely her own.

Even her Studio space is collected, colorful and fun!
Recently I shared a tour of my Studio ~ fabric has been added to the desk as ‘skirts’ and to the walls as wallpaper ~ providing color, pattern and texture too ~ read more (here), not to mention additional storage.
I’ve shared that each and every piece of furniture was thrifted, gifted or crafted then refinished and repurposed….making a style all ours.
I’ve sketched, crafted, sewed, painted and shopped for unique vintage finds.
Creating a space that felt like home, a place that felt fun to work and play. A place to share with friends, family and fellow creatives.
Our Cottage Kitchen is another area we have been focusing on by adding pattern, texture and color as well.
I just love how all the newly added colors, textures and patterns coordinate with denim blue ~ a decor staple in our home.
A ‘Comfy Blue Jean Cottage‘, like your favorite pair of blue jeans coordinating with any top or funky socks of any color.
We most recently introduced ‘orange’ into our kitchen with a fun vintage find while shopping with Tracy of Sister’s Stash, a sweet recipe box….and blue canisters are on the ‘borrowing plan‘ with my Sister Stacey.
Along with creating my own pottery thru a personal instructor, Jo Pilston in her Pottery Studio (here).
As a side note, I’ve been working with Jo to create ‘a line’ of goods to coordinate with our Candles to ‘warm your home, and melt your heart’…. I couldn’t be more excited!
My friend Jane Allen of ‘Jane Allen Creates‘ (here), said to me once ‘I love color to much not to use it in every room of our home‘ ~ Jane’s home is filled with color, unique art, warmth and love!
We even have the same color paint ‘Rain’, by Sherwin Williams thru-out both our homes ~ and we were not aware of each others choices….must have been a good pick!
Jane pairs pink thru-out each room of her beautiful home, a favorite color of hers, making her home uniquely her. Get a sneak peek into Jane’s Home thru her Blog~Christmas Tour (here).
Since organizing my life and day-planner, and re-working my to-do list to include ‘life’ ~ I feel excited to work on long-awaited projects thru-out our home!
Such as ~ a fun piece of Art for our kitchen, I’ve been meaning to share, ‘the girl with the smirky smile, a quirky duck and a chicken with a babushka’ ~ coming soon!
Who knew Home Decor could be so fun!
Inspiration is everywhere.
Dream on.
