Thru-out our lives we yo-yo diet, we binge eat, we crave, we fast, and we go thru all sorts of lifestyle changes with how we eat and with our food choices ~ thru each season of life and as we ‘age’ ...gracefully.
Everyone’s dietary desires and needs are different. Food ‘seasons’ come and go.
Over the past few months I have been searching out recipes that will satisfy the hubby and that can be adjusted for my needs (and wants) too.
And this cheeseburger recipe is a real keeper, not your average cheeseburger! Using a flour tortilla instead of a big-bulky-bun (…genius) and using no condiments!
Each burger is made up of 3/4 pounds of ground beef, seasoned, and topped with cheese and salsa ~ no condiments needed or side of fries.
One flour tortilla is all I used, but my hubby used two, one for the bottom and one for the top, wrapped like a burger!
Enjoy the recipe below, simple and delish.
Not Your Average Cheeseburger
Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 lb ground beef, (we used 85/15)
- 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
- red pepper flake to taste
- 1 clove minced garlic
- salsa (we used pico de gallo)
- 3 cups Montery Jack & Cheddar Shredded Cheese (1 1/2 C each)
- flour tortillas (one or two for each burger)
- 1 tb vegetable oil
- iceburg lettuce (shred if desired)
- salt & pepper
Instructions
- I always bake our burgers, but you can make them on the stove-top too. Mix Ground Beef with all seasonings and garlic. Form into 2 patties. (or 4 if you would like smaller portions). Bake at 350 for 1/2 hour. Test for doneness.
- Then prepare a pan with a tablespoon of vegetable oil, medium heat. Add flour tortillas. Top with cooked Burger, add cheese, lettuce and salsa. (Top with another flour tortilla if desired).
- Heat until cheese has melted, Serve and Enjoy!
